Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan believes that the PlayStation 5 game console will sell more than 108 million units during its life cycle.
This means that Sony executives expect PS5 sales to be lower than PS4 (117.2 million units) but higher than the original PlayStation (102.4 million units).
Jim Ryan’s answer in the game business briefing is as follows:
I estimate that the entire life cycle of the PlayStation 5 can bring an additional 70 million units on top of the existing 38 million units.
The main reason for this is that the existing PlayStation 4 user base is 70 million, and I think most of them will upgrade to PS5.
On the other hand, we will use more game resources to attract new players to buy PS5, and most of them are new players who have never owned a PlayStation console.
I’m looking forward to PS5 sales, and possibly exceeding the numbers above.
