Sony claims that games with subscription services reduce quality of games

According to Sony, games offered using subscription services are bad for consumers. From their point of view, gaming using subscriptions reduces the quality and the earnings of the developers. This viewpoint came to light due to CADE’s investigation into Microsoft’s intentions to purchase Activision Blizzard.

One popular franchise from Activision-Blizzard is Call of Duty, which gamers on both Xbox and PlayStation love so much. Microsoft’s purchase of this game development company will mean that most games they produce will be Xbox exclusive. We have seen Microsoft do this with other game development companies.

We can see evidence of this exclusivity in Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda. After the acquisition, all games developed by Bethesda became exclusive to Xbox and Microsoft PCs. Sony might fear that this is the same thing that will happen with the Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

Sony says gamers care more about the development of games and how they perform in terms of quality. How games get to the community is second. In the words of Sony, there is a “significant risk” of making its games accessible via subscription.

It narrows its reason for this reasoning to the needs of its users. In the long run games available on PlayStation will stay free from subscription services unlike we see with Microsoft. As Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard faces some issues, all games the company offers will remain free from subscription.
