Microsoft Xbox console business head Spencer promised that even if the company’s acquisition of well-known game developers Activision Blizzard deal is approved, the “Call of Duty” series of games will still exist on Sony PlayStation consoles for “several years” (beyond Sony’s existing contract with Activision), and future “Call of Duty” games will be on the PS platform on the day of its debut.
Sony PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said in an interview with GamesIndustry that the proposal was “inadequate on many levels”.
He pointed out that Microsoft’s offer to continue to bring future Call of Duty games to PS consoles is time-limited, that is, three years after the expiration of the current agreement between Sony and Activision.
Rumor has it that Sony and Activision signed an agreement that expires in 2024 or 2025, thus extending it another three years, which means that after 2027 or 2028, the Call of Duty game may not appear on the PlayStation platform, or may not be added on the day of its debut.
Ryan said, “I didn’t want to comment on what I understood to be a private business discussion, but I feel the need to set the record straight because Phil Spencer brought this into the public forum.”
