Sony has just announced that it has started pushing Android 13 updates to the Xperia 1 IV and Xperia 5 IV flagship models.
Details on when and how the push will start, how big the firmware is or if any special features will be added are scarce, but if you own an Xperia phone, we recommend you check for the update right away.
Sony Xperia 1 IV uses the same 6.5-inch 4K AMOLED display as its predecessor, with a 21:9 screen ratio, support for a 120Hz refresh rate and a 50% increase in screen brightness.
The Sony Xperia 1 IV is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship processor and comes in 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB versions, expandable via microSD slot and running Android 12.
For the rear camera, the Sony Xperia 1 IV features a 1/1.7-inch sensor for the main camera and supports OIS optical stabilization. The ultra wide-angle camera is a 1/2.5-inch sensor with autofocus support. The periscopic telephoto camera is a 1/3.5-inch sensor that also supports OIS optical stabilization and autofocus.
Sony says all three cameras support 4K video capture at 120 frames per second, all offer optical stabilization with FlawlessEye, eye autofocus, and live object tracking and autofocus. All cameras are capable of extending the dynamic range with image stacking and are capable of continuous shooting at 20 fps with AF/AE and HDR enabled. The RGB IR sensor on the back feeds into the AI algorithm that controls the camera’s white balance, and there’s also a 3D ToF sensor.
Elsewhere, the Xperia 1 IV has an increased battery capacity of 500 mAh for a total of 5000 mAh and supports 30W fast charging, which can be charged to 50% in half an hour, and Qi protocol wireless charging. In addition, the Sony Xperia 1 IV still retains a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the front stereo speakers have been improved with a 10% increase in maximum volume, as well as 20-50% more bass. For wireless audio, the phone is one of the first to support the new Bluetooth LE Audio technology, which supports LDAC Bluetooth audio transmission.
