Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ performance details emerge before launch

It was only a few days ago when Qualcomm made the official announcement of the Snapdragon Night 2022 event that will take place on May 20 in China. While everyone is eagerly waiting for the unveiling event tomorrow, early today, a leak has already found its way to Weibo, pointing out the performance details of the flagship mobile processor.

During the announcement, the company made it clear that they will be going to showcase new products but they were not so keen on sharing their name or specifics. The company tried to keep the veil of mystery intact but the fans are pretty sure that Qualcomm is going to showcase at least two of their new chips; Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 + and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 due to all the leaks and rumors.

Early today, Digital Chat Station exposed the performance and energy efficiency details of the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 + chip ahead of the unveiling event tomorrow. According to this Weibo post,  the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 + processor has mainly changed the fabrication process to TSMC 4mm. The main CPU and GPU architecture remains the same. There’s only a 10% increase in frequency and a 30% reduction in power consumption and a 30% increase in energy efficiency.

It is speculated that the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 + chip is coming with the triple cluster architecture. It consists of a Cortex X2 prime core which is clocked at 3.2GHz, three Cortex A710 large cores clocked at 2.75GHz, and four Cortex A510 small cores with a clock speed of 2.0GHz along with the enhanced Adreno 730 GPU.

The Weibo post even pointed out that the official data doesn’t represent the real performance of the chip. The first products powered by this new Qualcomm flagship SoC is all set to arrive with some of the smartphones being released as soon as the next month. These new devices will all have an overall 10% performance boost.
