Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ launch delayed to 2H of 2022, find out why

0

Rumoured to roll out its latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+, this month, the current epidemic outbreak in China seems to hold different plans for Qualcomm. The Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, who brought out this report, mentioned that the production of the upgraded platform may be delayed. He said that the launch could possibly happen in the second half of this year.

This foils the company’s bid to capture a larger share of the market with its newest chipset given the competition it fears at the hands of Mediatek with its very competitive Dimensity 9000 top-notch processor. Chinese political leaders, however, are concerned that the easing of restrictions would invariably lead to a surge in infections, and eventually would perturb the economy, as they were quoted by the state agency Xinhua.

Regardless of when the launch occurs, the tipster suggests that the first phone to grab and enjoy the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ might be the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, given the strong ties between Qualcomm and Lenovo. Let us not forget that the predecessor chipset, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, made its first appearance in the Edge 30 Pro (marketed by the name Edge X30 in China).

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ specifications (rumored)

It is expected that the new chipset will have an upgraded GPU, though the CPU specifications will stay the same as those for the current chipset. The chip architecture would include one massive Cortex-X2 (almost) 3GHz, an additional three Cortex-A710 performance units, and four Cortex A510 cores for efficiency.

Such a configuration promises to offer a boost in performance and power efficiency. However, the current Chinese epidemic has called for a long wait for fans to witness flagship phones experience the finesse of this brand-new chipset.
