The first public release of iPadOS 16 will be iPadOS 16.1 in October. Apple is currently beta testing iOS/iPadOS 16, with the former expected to be released with iPhone 14 this September, but the latter Apple will skip iPadOS 16.0 and release it in October this year. iPadOS 16.1.
On the occasion of the iOS/iPadOS 16 Beta 7 release, foreign tech media TechCrunch mentioned that “Apple is pushing iPadOS 16.1 Beta to registered developer devices”. This report seemed pre-written at the time, as Apple’s beta documentation referred to iPadOS 16.0 beta 7 instead of 16.1.
However, AppleInsider, a foreign technology media outlet, showed on an iPad device running the developer beta: “Your iPad has been upgraded to 16.1. In a statement, Apple said, “There have been a lot of changes to iPadOS this year. Not only do we have a number of features designed exclusively for iPad, but we have the flexibility to deliver iPadOS on our own schedule. iPadOS will be released after iOS this fall with a free upgrade directly to 16.1.”
