SK Hynix announced that the company’s fourth-generation 10nm-class (1a) DDR5 server DRAM has been certified as compatible with the new fourth-generation Xeon server processors (codenamed Sapphire Rapids) recently launched.
SK Hynix said that its 1a nm DDR5 DRAM products with EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet) technology have been certified as memory supportable by Intel’s fourth-generation Xeon server processors. With DDR5 currently in mass production, SK Hynix will aggressively respond to the growing server market and overcome the downturn in memory semiconductors as soon as possible.
DDR5 will meet the needs of customers who demand high performance as existing servers need to be replaced when the new generation of CPUs for servers becomes available and sales of high-performance memory increase dramatically. Experts predict that DDR5 will become the mainstay of the server DRAM market as soon as possible.
Compared with DDR4, SK Hynix’s DDR5 can reduce power consumption by up to 20% and increase performance by at least 70%, which is expected to provide server customers with a high performance-to-power ratio and a lower carbon footprint.
In the Intel DDR5 certification, SK Hynix also received certification for the second generation of 10nm (1y) DDR5. Accordingly, it can provide customers with a variety of DDR5 products such as 16Gb and 24Gb.
SK Hynix launched the world’s first DDR5 DRAM in October 2020; first 24Gb DDR5 samples in December 2021; and 1a nanometer DDR5 server DRAM certified by Intel in January 2023.
