Sina and Weibo cease operations and support for Taiwan, China

August 1, 1998 – Sina Taiwan was officially established in November 1998 and has been promoting its microblogging service in Taiwan since 2010, with more than 2.5 million users in Taiwan.

Today (1) Sina Taiwan (https://www.sina.com.tw/) suddenly became inaccessible, and CNEWS confirms that Sina has suspended operations in Taiwan with immediate effect and no longer supports related content.

Sina Weibo’s parent company in Taiwan, U.S.-based Huabuan Information Co., Ltd. said, “Due to operational strategy considerations, we will suspend operations in Taiwan, and will cease operations on Sina Taiwan as of August 1.

In addition, Sina Weibo Taiwan, which was launched by Sina in 2013, has also been confirmed to be inaccessible at tw.weibo.com.

Sina is a Chinese web portal company, a Chinese web content service provider serving the Chinese community in mainland China and around the world, while Sina Weibo is a social media site launched by Sina.com that provides micro-blogs. Users can post updates via web pages, WAP pages and mobile apps, and upload pictures and videos or live videos for instant sharing and interaction.
