SilverStone Launches SST-ECM28 Thin, Dual M.2 SSD Riser Expansion Card

With older platforms in mind or users who simply want to add M.2 slots to their systems, SilverStone has just introduced the thin SST-ECM28 expansion card solution. As a dual M.2 SSD Riser card, it is capable of accommodating one M-key NVMe and one B-key SATA drive, as well as a variety of board types from 2230 to 2280.

While this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a dual M.2 SSD expansion card, we’ve never seen such a compact style before. As shown, the SST-ECM28 is capable of mounting one M.2 SSD on each side.

The M-key NVMe drive bits are led from the PCIe x4 lane (compatible with slots such as x8 / x16), while the B-key M.2 drive bits require connection to the SATA port on the motherboard.

To overcome the lack of PCI baffles, SilverStone also cleverly equipped the SST-ECM28 with a PCIe x16 slot PCB tailgate (similar to a graphics card).

Finally, the SilverStone SST-ECM28 Riser card is compatible with M.2 SSDs from 2230 to 2280 board models. However, if you need to move the host around a lot, please also take care to check if it comes loose due to vibration before using it.
