In the iOS 17 Beta 2 update released yesterday, Apple invited developers to test the NameDrop function. The feature is an extension of Apple’s existing AirDrop feature, which makes it easy to share contact information.
Users only need to put two iPhones together or put an iPhone and an Apple Watch together, and they can send your email account and phone number, as well as their “poster” to the other iPhone.
Apple’s official description of this feature is attached here:
NameDrop is a new AirDrop experience that lets users hold an iPhone close to another iPhone to share contact information with a designated recipient.
Users can also choose what specific contact information they want to share and, importantly, what information they don't want to share. Users can also share content such as photos or links in the same way.
Apple Watch users can also use the NameDrop feature by tapping the share button on the card in the Contacts app, or by tapping the complication on the card on the watch face, and then placing the Apple Watch with someone else's Apple Watch.
Like all AirDrop experiences, these new features enable content to be shared securely over an encrypted link.
