When it comes to immersive audio experiences with standalone bars, one model that should not be overlooked is Sennheiser’s Ambeo, which should provide you with a superior home theater experience considering the device’s high price of $2,500. At IFA 2022, Sennheiser unveiled the new Ambeo Soundbar Plus. while slightly less expensive ($1,499.95), it may still be a turn-off for many consumers. The bar is available for pre-order today.
The Ambeo Soundbar Plus is officially described as “the world’s first 7.1.4 standalone bar”. It’s still bigger than the new Plus, so the name makes sense in that regard. The word “more compact” is mentioned several times in the company’s press release, so Sennheiser is really trying to emphasize the difference. In any case, it’s not a small bar, but it’s not as imposing as the Max.
Despite its smaller size, the Ambeo Soundbar Plus offers the same 3D audio output, a recipe developed by Sennheiser in collaboration with Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS. Sennheiser writes in a press release, “Ambeo self-calibrates to read the acoustic characteristics of the room, then places seven virtual speakers around the listener, plus four overhead speakers. Users can experience the depth, impact and spaciousness of a movie theater at home – without the need for additional cables or satellite speakers.”
