Last month, Sega said it was presenting the Mega Drive Mini 2 console in Japan, and now the company has revealed that North American gamers can enjoy retro fun with the Sega Genesis 2 Mini. In the trailer, we see a more streamlined version of the Model 2-like console. Meanwhile, Sega also shared a list of classic games supported.
As the successor to the Sega Genesis Mini released in 2019, the Sega Genesis Mini 2 has a revised design – combining a new compact form factor with a 6-button gamepad.
Also arriving are the Sega CD titles – they can be played on the Sega Genesis Mini 2 with a huge library of resources, complemented by full-motion video and smooth animations.
But what will delight gamers the most is the inclusion of over 50 classic games — not only more than the first generation Sega Genesis Mini, but also the addition of some never-before-released games.
For now, however, only about 25 games have been officially revealed, including Sonic CD, Light Force CD, Rolling Thunder 2 and more.
Among the first games announced, Rainbow Island Extra, Rolling Thunder 2, Particle Warrior 2, Sonic 3D Impact, Outrunners Racing, Super Hang-On Motorbike and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Ooze, are all exclusive to Sega Genesis Mini 2.
The Japanese version of Mega Drive Mini 2 will also feature Gem Cube 3, Boogaloo Story, Avatar Pixie, Sapphire Puzzle and Dragon and Phoenix.
Finally, the Sega Genesis Mini 2 will be available on October 27th and can be ordered through Amazon for those interested (page shows shipping from Japan).
