The Thunderbird team has publicly stated that it is promoting the Android version a long time ago, and now it has officially announced the first version of the user interface. Rather than developing an Android email management tool from scratch, the Thunderbird team worked with K-9 Mail to improve on the latter.

The screenshots of the first version of the user interface announced this time show a lot of information, allowing users to choose whether to enable it according to their preferences. The screenshot shows the multi-account function, the name of the sender can be displayed, the title of the email supports quick reply, and more operations, etc.

Clicking on a gray area in the view reveals additional details about the message. The screenshot shows that search and filter options are available, which is a useful feature for users with many recipients. Additional details include displaying information about all recipients, sorting by email client’s From, Reply to, CC and Bcc groups, and more.

Thunderbird for Android is currently in development, and the developer hasn’t announced a release date yet. This version is likely to be released in mid-2023, along with Thunderbird 114, the next big release for the desktop.
