Samsung today announced the launch of an updated “Try Galaxy” website, designed to allow Apple users to experience the feeling of owning a folding screen phone.
The site allows users to use two Apple phones to “experience” the advantages of the Galaxy Z Fold5’s large screen. Samsung has always had a web application that demonstrates the custom Android user interface it developed, as well as Samsung’s application, but experience Galaxy Fold. Options are brand new.
The experience requires two iPhones, both of which have the trial Galaxy app added to their home screens. The app can be installed via the Try Galaxy website, which has a scannable QR code. The web app needs to be launched on two iPhones, one of which generates a code and the other accepts the code in order to establish synchronization between the two devices. The “single” screen is then split between the two Apple phones, simulating the larger-screen effect of the Galaxy Fold.
Users have a limited number of experience options to choose from, and can only scratch the surface of what the Galaxy Fold can do. Users can play a game of air hockey, browse a tutorial on multitasking, or watch a video split across two screens. Almost all of the multi-screen views available are video tutorials controlled by Samsung, so this is more of a gimmick.
Samsung often uses anti-Apple marketing and likes to point out that Apple doesn’t have a foldable phone.
