Samsung’s flagship SSD 990 PRO exposed to rapid health loss, official warranty denied

The 990 PRO is Samsung’s current flagship consumer-grade SSD. The price of 1TB is as high as 999 CNY, and 2TB is as high as 2199 CNY. However, today’s foreign media Neowin editor Robbie Khan wrote that his 990 PRO’s health had declined too quickly a few days after he bought it, and Samsung officials refused to guarantee it.

The article stated that just a few days after buying the 990 Pro 2TB, according to the SMART data of Samsung Magician and third-party tools, the health of the solid-state drive dropped to 99%, while a Samsung solid-state drive he bought before has written The input exceeds 40TB, and the health degree is still 99% after 1.5 years of use, so the newly purchased SSD is obviously abnormal.

Another day or so later, the health of the 990 Pro dropped to 98% again, before even filling the 2TB. After a few more days, the drive’s health dropped to 95%.

The editor found on the Internet that other users have encountered the same problem. Afterward, he contacted the after-sales service of Samsung Memory by phone and was told that it is normal for the health level to drop by a few percentage points, and if it continues to drop, he can apply for a warranty.

The health of the hard drive dropped to 94%, so Robbie Khan applied for a warranty from Samsung. But what made him angry was that Samsung’s after-sales service said that it did not find any problems with the solid-state drive and it did not meet the warranty conditions, so it returned it the same way. After receiving the return, Robbie Khan checked and found that Samsung did not do any other operations except formatting the SSD, including firmware reset, etc., and the health level was still 94%.

Robbie Khan said he was very confused by this. He has provided all the requested details and screenshots as evidence, but Samsung’s after-sales personnel said that they did not check the problem. So Robbie Khan wrote back and asked for written confirmation that this kind of health loss was normal with such a small amount of data written to the hard drive in such a short period of time. But it has been 5 days and no reply from Samsung.
