Samsung has been buying OLED and LCD display panels from BOE for a few years now, and these panels are used in smartphones and TVs. However, it looks like Samsung will no longer be buying display panels from BOE next year.
According to TheElec, Samsung has removed BOE from its supply chain list, meaning the company will not be buying any products from BOE. This is due to recent royalty payment issues with BOE. According to the report, Samsung asked BOE to pay royalties for using the Samsung name in its marketing, but BOE refused. Since then, Samsung has reduced its purchase of display panels from BOE.
Now, Samsung’s most recent list of suppliers suggests that BOE has been kicked out of its supply chain, and BOE’s OLED panels are typically used in Samsung’s low-cost and mid-range smartphones, while LCD panels are used in the company’s low-cost TVs. Now, Samsung has increased its orders for display panels from Hwasung Optoelectronics and LG Display.
