Samsung today updated its SmartThings app for iPhone and iPad to add support for Matter devices. smartThings is similar to Apple’s HomeKit, Samsung’s smart home platform.
The SmartThings platform added support for the Matter protocol last October and has integrated Matter in the SmartThings hub.
Prior to this update, users could only control Matter accessories connected to the SmartThings hub from their Android devices.
With this update, users can control a variety of smart home products connected to the SmartThings platform on their iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. This is very useful for home users who use multiple platforms.
Matter is a smart home standard designed to integrate with all major smart home platforms such as Apple, Samsung, Google, Amazon and others. For example, Matter home accessories can be connected to HomeKit and SmartThings and can be controlled through either smart home platform as long as the right Hub is present.
