Samsung SDI recently released an official announcement, saying its “46 Φ” specification battery in advance of the scheduled time, to achieve the performance target, has begun to prepare samples of batteries for customers.
Samsung SDI did not mention specific “performance targets” in the press release, but in the case of the battery, the parameters include energy density, charge/discharge time, cycle life at typical temperatures, and mass production cost.
Samsung SDI says it is developing different versions of the 46mm diameter battery with different heights for different customers.
Samsung did not announce specifications, Tesla is currently developing a 4680 battery (80mm height), while BMW announced two battery specifications, 4695 and 46120.
Samsung SDI is planning to expand its battery plant in Goed, Hungary, to mass-produce 46120 cylindrical battery cells (46 mm in diameter and 120 mm in height).
