Samsung ordered to pay $303 million for infringing a company’s memory patent

Netlist, a U.S. company specializing in computer memory, has sued South Korea’s Samsung in federal court in Texas for infringement of several of its patents, seeking $404 million in damages. After a six-day trial, a jury on Friday ruled that Samsung’s “memory module” infringed on five of Netlist’s patents and awarded Netlist more than $303 million in damages.

Netlist, based in Irvine, California, sued Samsung in 2021, claiming that Samsung’s memory products used in cloud computing servers and other data-intensive technologies infringed on its patents. a lawyer for Netlist told the jury that Samsung took its patent-pending module technology after working with Netlist on another project.

Samsung, for its part, argued that Netlist’s patents were invalid and that its technology was different from Netlist’s invention. Netlist’s stock rose 21 percent after Friday afternoon’s ruling.
