Samsung launches Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Kids Edition tablet in the US: more rugged with swivel kickstand

Samsung has launched a new tablet for kids in the U.S. The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Kids Edition tablet is now available for purchase in the U.S. through AT&T.

The new tablet is based on the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, which launched in 2021, meaning it has the same core features as the standard version of the tablet. That includes an 8.7-inch display with a MediaTek Helio P22T chip, at least 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and a 5100mAh battery. However, the new tablet adds a few things to the standard version to make it kid-friendly.

For starters, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Kids Edition has a sturdy case with a thick protective sleeve around the screen to protect against bumps and drops, and can withstand rough use by kids for a more carefree experience. There’s also a 360-degree swivel kickstand so kids can see the display content hands-free from almost any angle. The kickstand can also be used as a handle to carry the tablet.

AT&T and Samsung have also added some software features to the tablet to make it more kid-friendly. To that end, the tablet comes with Samsung’s Kids app pre-installed. This helps parents control how their children use the tablet. This includes limiting the contacts, apps and media that children can access and the time they can use the tablet. The app also provides usage reports to track how the child is spending time on the device.

The Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Kids Edition costs $7/month on AT&T with a 36-month contract for a total retail price of $250 (about Rs. 1,825). When you consider that the standard version of the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite now retails for $109 (about $796), the pricing for the Kids Edition becomes very high. The new tablet will go on sale in the U.S. on Nov. 4.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Kids Edition faces direct competition from Amazon’s Fire 8 HD Kids Edition, which retails for $180 (about Rs. 1,314). While the AT&T and Samsung offering is much more expensive, it also offers the Google Play Store, a feature that the Amazon Fire 8 HD Kids lacks.
