According to Korean media outlet The Elec, Samsung Display is supplying more than 70 percent of the OLED panels for Apple’s iPhone 14 series.
The source said that Samsung Display has taken the lead after setbacks from rivals LG Display and BOE. Apple is expected to use more than 120 million OLED panels for the iPhone 14 series.
The sources added that Samsung Display is expected to ship around 80 million units, LG Display is expected to ship around 20 million units, and BOE is expected to ship 6 million units.
Apple’s iPhone 14 series uses low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistor (TFT) OLED panels in two basic models and low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) TFT OLED panels in two high-end models.
The Elec noted that Samsung Display provides OLED panels for four models; LG Display provides LTPS for the common 6.1-inch model iPhone 14 and LTPO for the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max model; BOE only provides LTPS for the common 6.1-inch iPhone (iPhone 14) BOE only provides LTPS for the 6.1-inch iPhone (iPhone 14).
Samsung Display expects shipments of the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max models to exceed 60 million out of approximately 80 million shipments, as both models are selling better than expected.
In addition, LG Display’s OLED panels for the iPhone 14 Pro Max are experiencing production issues, which has allowed Samsung Display to gain more market share early on; BOE may expect iPhone 14 shipments to increase, but regular iPhone 14 sales are lower than expected.
