Samsung improves Exynos 2200 processor, Exynos 2400 also in development

Samsung announced the Galaxy S23 series in February, the company’s latest generation of flagship smartphones, powered by Qualcomm’s custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. While Samsung is expected to continue its “multi-year” partnership with Qualcomm to provide chips for its upcoming flagship phones, sources have revealed that Samsung is developing a chip called the Exynos 2400.

Samsung Galaxy S23 series

According to MK, Samsung Electronics plans to use its own AP Exynos 2200 in the Galaxy S23 FE (fan version) to be released in the second half of this year, and it is also working on the Exynos 2400 to be installed in the Galaxy S24 series to be released next year. Mass production is expected to start as early as November.

However, we’re skeptical about this report. The biggest doubt is that Qualcomm and Samsung signed a deal in 2022 to make Qualcomm Snapdragon chips the only chips in the Galaxy S flagship phones. Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said at the time that it was a “multi-year” agreement, meaning that the Galaxy S24 series would also only feature Snapdragon chips.

In addition, Maeil Business Press has confirmed a previous report that the Galaxy S23 FE is coming soon and will be powered by last year’s Exynos 2200 processor. The publisher says the phone will be available in the second half of 2023 and could cost 800,000 won (currently about $4,184). The publisher also said that Samsung improved the yield of the Exynos 2200 by making “design changes”. It’s worth noting that before the release of the Galaxy S22 there were rumors that Samsung had significantly reduced the clock speed of the Exynos 2200 GPU due to overheating issues.
