Samsung Galaxy S23 will be paired with a SmartThings wireless charger

According to a leak, Samsung is working on a new wireless charging pad that could be available around the release of the Galaxy S23 early next year. The model number of the accessory is EP-P9500 and the device is called SmartThings Station, whose name may reveal some interesting and never-before-seen features.

Bluetooth certification indicates that the device is called the SmartThings Station, and interestingly, Samsung previously obtained the same name through a USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) application.

The “EP-P” part of the EP-P9500 model number actually confirms that this is a wireless charging pad. However, Samsung has never released a wireless charger with SmartThings functionality, and the so-called SmartThings Station would be the first of its kind.

Neither the Bluetooth certificate nor the USPTO filing for the SmartThings Station reveals much about the device. But apparently, it will be Bluetooth (5.2) capable, which means the device will be able to do more than simply provide a wireless charging pad for Galaxy smartphones and wearables.

Samsung has been more inclined to make SmartThings the platform of choice for smart home devices. At SDC22, the company announced integration with Matter devices and better interoperability with Google Home. The SmartThings-equipped wireless charger coincides with the company’s evolution. Samsung has even added more SmartThings tools to the new modes and regular features of One UI 5.0.

This new device may allow users to monitor the charging status of their Galaxy devices through the SmartThings app. It may also allow SmartThings users to remotely control the so-called SmartThings Station – turning the device on or off, or setting other parameters.

Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy S23 series of phones in the early to mid first quarter of 2023.
