Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will use a wide-area ultrasonic fingerprint sensor

On August 17, iQOO released the first support ultrasonic 3D wide area fingerprint unlock iQOO 8 Pro. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will also use an ultrasonic 3D wide area fingerprint sensor.

According to Alvin, there are rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will use Qualcomm’s ultrasonic 3D wide area (3D Sonic Max) fingerprint scanning technology, the same ultrasonic 3D wide area fingerprint sensor used in phones like the Vivo X80 Pro and iQOO 9 Pro. area and faster unlock speed.

Qualcomm’s official description of the 3D Sonic Max ultrasonic fingerprint sensor reads

"The Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max ultrasonic fingerprint sensor uses evolving ultrasonic technology to read 3D features such as ridges, grooves and pores on a user's finger to build a highly accurate fingerprint image, enabling mobile devices to provide a high-performance fingerprint security solution. The Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is able to penetrate objects such as glass and metal for accurate fingerprint scanning, even when the finger is wet, for example.

Thanks to its large recognition area, the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max ultrasonic fingerprint sensor also supports simultaneous reading of two fingerprints, which not only further enhances the security of applications such as payments, but also gives the phone an overall upgrade in privacy. For example, parents can set certain applications to dual fingerprint unlock, so that children must be involved with their parents to unlock those applications."

Previously, Samsung used ultrasonic under-screen fingerprint on Galaxy S22 Ultra, as to why it did not use ultrasonic 3D wide area fingerprint unlocking solution, wccftech believes that it is because of the cost issue, and its speculation that the reason why Samsung uses Qualcomm processors on all Galaxy S23 series phones is that Qualcomm promised some additional conditions, including the provision of the ultrasonic 3D wide area fingerprint sensor at a lower price.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra will be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 processor, a built-in 5000mAh battery, using the not-yet-released 200 million pixel sensor ISOCELL HP2.
