Samsung Galaxy S23 series confirmed that it does not support Android A/B seamless update mechanism

According to application reports such as Inware and Treble Check, the Samsung Galaxy S23 series does not support the A/B seamless update mechanism.

The goal of an A/B system update (also known as a seamless update) is to ensure that a properly bootable and usable system remains on the disk during an over-the-air (OTA) download update. This approach reduces the likelihood that a device will not boot after an update, which means fewer users will need to take their devices to repair and warranty centers for replacement and refresh. Certain other commercial-grade operating systems, such as ChromeOS, have also successfully used the A/B update mechanism.

Google introduced a seamless update mechanism in 2016 that, while the update process is slower than regular updates, does provide a layer of security to the update process. Users can also recover from a failure in the update process by using the A/B partitioning method.

One of the main reasons Samsung refused to support the A/B seamless update mechanism was storage, as the mechanism takes up additional storage space.

And Samsung’s system takes up more space, according to foreign technology media 9to5Google reported that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra occupies more than 50GB of space, while last year’s Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra occupies more than 30GB of space.
