Samsung Galaxy S23 is equipped with the second generation Snapdragon 8 for Galaxy

Early this morning Samsung officially announced the company’s annual Android flagship Galaxy S23 series, the entire series equipped with the second generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, but not the ordinary second generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, but Samsung’s exclusive custom second generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform (for Galaxy).

The second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform (for Galaxy) will be available for the entire Galaxy S23 lineup, including models for the European market.

The second generation of the Snapdragon 8 mobile platform (for Galaxy) is different from the standard version because of its increased CPU and GPU frequencies. The Kryo CPU core of the second generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform (for Galaxy) has been overclocked to 3.36GHz (compared to 3.2GHz in the standard version), while the Adreno GPU frequency has also been increased from 680MHz to 719MHz.

In terms of scores, the Galaxy S23 series achieved a Geekbench 5 single-core score of 1583, compared to the standard second-generation Snapdragon 8’s single-core score of around 1480 and MediaTek’s Tiangui 9200’s single-core score of between 1400-1500, the Galaxy S23 series dominated the Android camp with its single-core scores, and its multi-core scores surpassed Apple’s A15.

So will the increased frequency bring about heat dissipation problems, to which Samsung officially said: “[The] NPU on the Galaxy S23 is optimized by more than 40% to balance performance and power consumption. And the optimized chipset contributes to the improved battery performance of the Galaxy S23 series, improving its overall power efficiency.” We’ll have to test the new model to find out if it’s exactly what Samsung says it is.

In addition, Samsung also confirmed that the second generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform (for Galaxy) is manufactured by TSMC and is based on a 4nm process.
