Samsung is protecting its Galaxy phones, tablets and laptops from malware with a pre-installed antivirus solution powered by McAfee, which will continue to be pre-installed on Galaxy phones, tablets and laptops for at least the next nine years.
Samsung and McAfee renewed their partnership and extended it for nine years. Pre-installed McAfee anti-malware solutions are available for the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Book 3 laptops and older Galaxy devices and will continue to protect future Samsung devices from threats for a long time.
Samsung and McAfee last extended their partnership in 2018, when the Galaxy S9 was released. Now, the built-in virus scanner in Samsung’s One UI (located in the Device Protection section of the Settings app) says “Powered by McAfee”. It may last 9 years or more.

If you have a modern Galaxy smartphone or tablet and want to run an anti-virus scan, you can do so by opening the Settings app, going to Battery and Device Maintenance, and then clicking on the Device Protection “option (with the shield icon) and pressing the “Scan Phone” or “Scan Tablet” button.
The anti-malware solution runs in the background and scans Samsung devices regularly, so users don’t actually need to perform regular manual scans to protect their devices from threats while browsing the web and using social media/online banking applications.
McAfee Labs claims its anti-malware solution is backed by more than 200 threat researchers and finds 537 new unique threats and blocks 22,250 threats every minute. It protects more than 600 million devices in 182 countries.
