Samsung Electronics will set up an internal Semiconductor Research Institute

0

According to foreign media reports, Samsung Electronics will establish a new global research organization under the DS business unit in December this year.

The global research organization, which is expected to analyze the semiconductor market and other related industries and tap into new markets, will reportedly be led by a vice president.

Samsung felt the need to establish an independent internal semiconductor research organization due to the increased shortage of semiconductors as a result of global supply chain disruptions; also contributing to the growing distrust of external market research organizations.

Currently, the Samsung Group has several research institutes, including the Samsung Research Center, operated by Samsung Electronics for advanced technology research, the Samsung Securities Research Center and the Samsung Global Research Center. However, these research institutions focus on different areas, but none of them conducts in-depth analysis of the semiconductor industry.

Samsung Electronics believes that the memory industry is facing a sharp drop in demand and excess inventory due to weakening global purchasing power following a significant U.S. interest rate hike, and accordingly, global chipmakers are reducing production and capital expenditures.
