Samsung Electronics will produce some EyeQ chips for Intel Mobileye to support ADAS and autonomous driving technology

Samsung Electronics will produce the “EyeQ” series of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) chips for Intel’s autonomous driving company Mobileye.

EyeQ is installed in the car as a SoC, supporting ADAS and autonomous driving technologies. Mobileye has launched EyeQ 4, 5, 6 series and Ultra series products. Samsung Electronics has currently received orders for products below the 5 series in the 7-28nm process.

Mobileye currently occupies about 70% of the camera-based ADAS chip market. It was established in Israel in 1999 and was acquired by Intel for US$15.3 billion in 2017. , which will be listed on Nasdaq in October 2022.

Because Mobileye focuses on design, it has always outsourced production. Before Samsung, the production of the EyeQ series has always been in the charge of TSMC.

Samsung Electronics has produced chips for many self-driving companies around the world. For example, it has used the 14nm process to produce Tesla Hardware 3.0 chips since 2019. The company is competing with TSMC for orders from Tesla for next-generation chips.
