Samsung Electronics to significantly increase foundry capacity more than two times by 2027

Samsung Electronics, which took the lead in June this year in using the 3nm process to foundry wafers for related customers, is an important global chip foundry, and wafer foundry is also something they are committed to vigorously developing, and in 2019 it was reported that they plan to invest $116 billion over the next 10 years to develop chip manufacturing businesses such as wafer foundry to foundry chips for tech giants.

And the latest reports from foreign media show that Samsung Electronics reiterated that they will improve the capacity of their foundry business through the advanced process and aggressive investment.

In the report, the foreign media said that Samsung Electronics plans to spare no effort to expand foundry capacity, their goal is to more than triple by 2027, for which they will first establish clean rooms, and then operate flexibly according to market demand.

Samsung Electronics plans to significantly increase wafer foundry capacity, which means they need to build more factories, and they have plans for this. The foreign media mentioned in the report that Choi Si-young, president of Samsung Electronics foundry business unit, revealed that they currently have five factories operating in South Korea and the United States, and they have identified sites to build more than 10 more factories.
