Samsung Electronics overtakes Google, tops Best Global Brands 2022 list

Samsung Electronics ranked first for the first time in the world’s best brands list by global polling company YouGov, with Google, which ranked first in 2021, falling to second place.

Samsung Electronics scored 127 points to rank No. 1 in YouGov’s 2022 Best Global Brands ranking, announced. The Korean tech giant rose from fourth place in 2020 to second place last year. This year, it overtook Google to move to the top spot.

Google was second with 106 points, followed by YouTube (85), Netflix (59), and Southeast Asian e-commerce company Shopee (51). In sixth place was WhatsApp (50 points), followed by Toyota (41 points), Colgate (34 points), Mercedes-Benz (34 points) and German retail giant Lidl (33 points).

The agency selected the top 10 brands in 38 markets by combining brand image, quality, value, consumer satisfaction, recommendation and word-of-mouth, and then ranked the 380 brands by calculating a score for their ranking in each market. Their ranking was measured by giving the first place a score of 10 and the tenth place a score of 1.

Samsung Electronics ranked first in four countries, including South Korea, the Netherlands, Vietnam and Ireland, second in the United Kingdom and France, fifth in Germany, Australia and Indonesia, sixth in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States, seventh in Brazil, and ninth in Canada and Denmark. In South Korea, Samsung ranked first, followed by Tylenol, Autogrill, Nike and LG.

Notably, Adidas and Nike, which entered the top 10 club last year, disappeared from the rankings, while car brands such as Toyota and Mercedes-Benz moved up to the top 10.

In addition, Tokyo Disneyland rose to the top of the rankings in Japan, while Huawei took first place in China.
