Samsung and MediaTek announce breaking 5G triple-antenna upload speed record of 363Mbps

Samsung Networks, a subsidiary of Samsung, announced that it has set a new record in 5G upload speeds in collaboration with MediaTek, the two companies completed the test at Samsung Labs in Suwon, South Korea.

Samsung said it achieved record speeds on a 5G standalone network using 2CC CA (carrier aggregation) and C-band with MIMO (multiple input multiple output) capabilities.

The test used Samsung Networks’ C-band massive MIMO radios, vDUs (virtual distributed units) and 5G cores. One of MediaTek’s test devices used a new M80-based CPU chipset with one channel and three antennas (1,900MHz, 3.7GHz and 3.7GHz) to achieve a maximum upload speed of 363Mbps (45.375MB/s). This speed is close to the theoretical limit for this type of configuration.

We are pleased to have successfully achieved this industry breakthrough with MediaTek, bringing greater efficiency and performance to consumer devices,” said Dongwoo Lee, head of Samsung Electronics’ Network Business Technology Solutions Group. Faster uplink speeds open up new possibilities and have the potential to transform the user experience. This milestone further demonstrates our commitment to improving our customers’ networks using state-of-the-art technology.”

Sony Ericsson and MediaTek recently set a record uplink speed of 440 Mbps (55MB/s) for low and mid-band 5G networks using uplink carrier aggregation, a bit higher than Samsung’s record. The two implementations are different, however, with Ericsson using the 50MHz FDD n1 and 100MHz TDD n77 bands.
