Russia plans mass production of 28nm chips in 2027 and 14nm chips in 2030

According to the Russian media “Kommersant” report, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed a roadmap for the development of microelectronics. According to reports, the country’s microelectronics companies can currently produce 130nm process products, and the latest goals are to mass produce 65nm chip node processes in 2026, locally manufacture 28nm chips in 2027, and mass produce 14nm in 2030.

Local experts believe these technologies will help produce affordable laptops based on Linux and RISC-V.

As early as last year, the Russian government had initially formulated a new microelectronics development plan. By 2030, it will need to invest approximately 3.19 trillion rubles (Note: currently approximately 232.232 billion RMB), which will be used to develop local semiconductor production. technology, domestic chip development, data centers and other infrastructure, while also focusing on cultivating local talents and marketing self-developed chips and solutions.

In terms of semiconductor manufacturing, Russia plans to spend 420 billion rubles (currently about 30.576 billion RMB) on new manufacturing technologies. One of the short-term goals is to use the 90nm process to increase local chip production before the end of this year.

It was reported yesterday that “Kommersant” said that the Russian company Norsi-Trans will start producing data storage systems, servers and computers using Loongson processors. The executive director of the Russian Data Storage System Developers Association claimed that Russian companies will purchase Loongson 5000 series processors (12nm process) with performance similar to Intel i5.

The general manager of Norsi-Trans, Сергей Овчинников, said that the company has purchased about 100 Loongson processors and will trial-produce a batch of equipment using Loongson processors.
