Several countries around the world have already deployed 5G networks, but Russia has not yet officially approved them, and now the country’s research institutes and companies have new considerations and have decided to develop their own 6G network technology so that they do not have to wait for 5G approval. According to the Russian newspaper Kommersant, Russia’s Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (SKOLTECH) and the Institute of Radio Research (FSBI NIIR) are preparing to jointly develop 6G network technology, a project that will involve the development of prototypes to mass-production models, and will also study the security of network communications.

Oleg Ivanov, CEO of NIIR Institute, has confirmed the plan but has not announced specific details, after all, 6G is in the early stages of research worldwide and it is still early for standards to be determined, let alone product development.

Their plan is to complete equipment manufacturing by 2025, requiring a state budget of 30 billion rubles, or about 3.45 billion yuan.

But not everyone supports this 6G plan, some operators believe that the current 4G network is sufficient to meet demand, users will not upgrade to 5G network, let alone 6G.
