The latest version of Sony’s PS3 emulator “RPCSE3” has now been updated to support AVX-512 instructions for AMD Ryzen 7000 “Zen 4” CPUs. AMD Ryzen 7000 “Zen 4” CPUs with AVX-512 instructions can now boost the performance of the Sony PS3 “RPCS3” emulator.
We know that Intel’s Alder Lake CPUs also briefly added the AVX-512 instruction set when they were launched, and then emulators such as RPCS3 (PlayStation 3 emulator) performed 30% better performance than regular standard AVX2 CPUs. But since then, Intel has more or less shielded AVX-512 support from its consumer lineup and offered it only on Xeon chips, a move that has sparked controversy.
But on the other hand, AMD will definitely bring AVX-512 support to consumers on its Ryzen 7000 and AM5 platforms. AMD says its Zen 4 CPUs will offer 30% the inference power of FP32 and 2.5x the inference performance of INT8 with support for Advanced Vertex Extension-512 (VNNI).
For those who buy an emulator or want to try out console/handheld games on PC through it, it looks like buying AMD’s Zen 4 CPUs for the extra performance boost of AVX-512 would be a good option.
