Recently, we obtained a set of patent drawings of Renault 5 E-Tech from foreign media. The car is positioned as a small hatchback and uses pure electric drive. Its WLTP pure electric cruising range will reach 400km. This car will become the successor of Renault ZOE in the future and is expected to be released at the Geneva Motor Show on February 26, 2024. In the future, Renault’s high-performance division Alpine may build a high-performance version of the car based on this car.
In terms of appearance, it can be seen that the new car continues the design style of the concept car, but the LED light source structure inside the headlight group has been adjusted. The square LED daytime running lights have also been changed to a style with four corners lit, and a red one in the middle. The “5” logo is more recognizable overall. The illuminated RENAULT letters under the front of the concept car are not expected to be retained, but an air intake will be installed. In addition, according to previous preview images, the engine hood is equipped with a charging status display. When the battery is full, the display will display the complete number “5”.
Looking from the side of the body, the car is only 3.92 meters long, making it appear relatively short and compact. There is a charging socket behind the front wheel, and the rear door handle is hidden in front of the C-pillar. A strip of red decoration on the roof extends from the rearview mirror to the rear spoiler, adding a bit of vitality to the entire car. The overall shape of the rims also continues the design on the concept car, but it does not look so exaggerated and the size has also been reduced.
The rear of the car follows the H-shaped through-type taillight design from the concept car. However, according to previous preview images, the middle part is only for decoration and cannot be lit. It is equipped with the number 5 logo. It is reported that the car does not use a dedicated electric vehicle platform, but is based on the Renault Clio. The two cars share about 70% of their parts. In the future, the car will be equipped with a multi-link rear suspension, which is relatively rare among French hatchbacks and will bring better handling.
In terms of power, the car will be driven by pure electric power, but the specific power parameters have not been announced. According to previous news, the car will be equipped with a battery with a capacity of 52.0kWh and a WLTP cruising range of approximately 400km. An entry-level model equipped with a 40.0kWh battery may be launched in the future. We will continue to pay attention to more news about new cars.
