Most of the technology manufacturers in the Cologne International Game Show showed some new or soon to be released new products, such as ASRock showing its “half a generation” updated version of the Z790 motherboards, these new motherboards use the RTL8125-BG chip, instead of the June Computex show on the prototype RTL8126-CG. The new motherboards all use the RTL8125-BG chip, rather than the RTL8126-CG used in the prototypes at Computex in June.
Dutch media Tweakers learned from a number of motherboard manufacturers attending the Cologne International Game Show that the Realtek 5GbE wired NIC chip RTL8126-CG, while cheaper, will not be carried on the motherboards launched this fall due to stability issues.
Realtek is reportedly working on fixing such issues, but they won’t be able to resolve them before new motherboards hit the market this fall, so we may have to wait for the next generation of motherboards used by AMD Zen 5 and Intel Arrow Lake processors to come out before we’ll see the chip, which aren’t expected to launch until the second half of next year.
The Realtek RTL8126-CG is based on the PCIe 3.0 x1 interface and is smaller and cheaper than Marvell’s existing 5Gbit and 10Gbit/s offerings.
The Realtek RTL8126-CG is said to be a miniature QFN56 chip measuring 8x8mm and consuming a maximum of 1.7W, and is actually supposed to be the successor to the RTL8125-BG, which is expected to be purchased for only $5 (currently around RMB 36), or at least $20-$30 for most of the similar products on the market today.
