Four years after the launch of the Raspberry Pi 4 single-board computer, the Raspberry Pi 5 has finally arrived. The latest version mainly improves performance and adds support for PCIe 2.0. The starting price is $60 ( Currently about RMB 439).
The Raspberry Pi 5 uses a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor with a clock frequency of 2.4GHz, which improves performance by two to three times compared to the Raspberry Pi 4 four years ago.
The SBC also comes with an 800MHz VideoCore VII graphics chip, which the Raspberry Pi Foundation says provides a “substantial boost” in graphics performance.
The south bridge component of Raspberry Pi 5 is manufactured by the Raspberry Pi Foundation itself and is used to communicate with peripherals. The official stated that it has “achieved a leap forward in peripherals and functions”, thereby establishing the connection with external UAS drives and other peripherals. Faster transfers.
Raspberry Pi 5 also provides 2 quad-channel 1.5 Gbps MIPI transceivers, which can connect up to 2 cameras or displays.
The Raspberry Pi 5 also offers support for a single-lane PCIe 2.0 interface for connecting “high-bandwidth peripherals.” However, the Raspberry Pi Foundation states that it still requires an adapter such as an M.2 HAT (hardware connection at the top) to use it.
The 4GB version of Raspberry Pi 5 is priced at US$60 (currently about RMB 439), and the 8GB version is priced at US$80 (currently about RMB 585), both of which are US$5 more than the previous generation. It will go on sale at the end of the month.
