The Radxa Rock5 Model A is a single-board computer about the size and shape of a Raspberry Pi 4 (Raspberry Pi 4), but it has a faster processor and supports more memory.
Radxa expects its motherboard, also known as ROCK 5A, to start shipping in the second quarter of 2023. The retail price starts at $99 (currently about 671 RMB).
The core of Rock5 Model A is Rockchip RK3588S processor, which is the same series model of RK3588 used in Rock5 Model B launched last year. But the Model B has a larger circuit board measuring 100 x 72mm with some extra ports.
The Rock5 Model A model has a more compact design, which can make it better for projects with limited space… the dimensions are more like a Raspberry Pi Model B.
The Rockchip RK3588S processor has four ARM Cortex-A76 CPU cores up to 2.4GHz, four Cortex-A55 cores up to 1.8GHz, Mali-G610 MC4 graphics, and a hardware-accelerated AI with up to 6TOPS High-performance neural processing unit and supports 8K / 60fps video playback.
The board features LPDDR4X memory and will be available in three different configurations:
4GB memory version $99 (currently about 671 RMB) (or pre-order discounted price of $69, currently about 468 RMB)
8GB memory version $119 (currently about 807 RMB) (or pre-order discounted price of $89, currently about 603 RMB)
16GB memory version $159 (currently about 1078 RMB) (or pre-order discounted price of $129, currently about 875 RMB)
The characteristics of each model are as follows:
1 x USB Type-C port (for power supply)
2 x micro HDMI ports (one supports 8K / 60Hz output, the other supports 4K / 60Hz)
1 x USB 3 Type-A OTG / Host Port
1 x USB 3 Type-A host port
2 x USB 2.0 Type A host ports
1 x Gigabit Ethernet port
1 x microSD card reader
1 x eMMC module connector (support eMMC 5.1)
1 x M.2 E Key, supports PCIe 2.1 single lane, SATA and USB 2.0
1 x LCD display connector (4-lane MIPI-DSI)
1 x Camera Connector (1 x 4-lane MIPI-CSI or 2 x 2-lane MIPI-CSI)
There are a few other odds and ends including the fan connector and the RTC battery connector.
Radxa says the ROCK 5A supports up to three displays when using both the HDMI port and the MIPI-DSIC display connector. Users can use eMMC module, microSD card or M.2 E Key for storage.
