Qualcomm X70 baseband built into all Apple iPhone 15 series, not just Pro models

Apple iPhone 15 series of phones in the 5G performance has been significantly improved, thanks to the new machine using Qualcomm’s new X70 modem. The change applies not only to the high-end iPhone 15 Pro lineup, but also to the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models.

The change was confirmed by a tweet from Shahram Mokhtari of the iFixit website, who noted the significance of the change, writing, “Apple didn’t just put last year’s Pro version of the logic board directly into this year’s standard model, they upgraded the standard model as well. This also shows that Apple’s standard models aren’t always limited to accepting only last year’s old stock, and that the newer models will also get updates to the components on the logic board.”

This means that the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max all use Qualcomm’s X70 modem, which actually continues what Apple did last year, when the entire iPhone 14 lineup used Qualcomm’s X65 modem.

Benchmarks on the SpeedSmart website show that Qualcomm’s X70 modem brings a huge boost to the iPhone 15’s 5G performance. According to these figures, the iPhone 15 delivers a 24 percent increase in 5G speeds over the iPhone 14 series. In the U.S., users on Verizon’s network will see the biggest boost when they upgrade to iPhone 15, followed by T-Mobile and AT&T.

Additionally, the iPhone 15’s X70 modem reduces power consumption, improves 5G carrier aggregation, and improves performance when the iPhone is farther away from the base station.

It’s worth noting that Apple is also developing its own 5G modem, but it’s expected to take a few more years to complete. Last month Qualcomm announced that Apple will continue to use Qualcomm 5G modems until at least 2026.
