Qualcomm is expected to release its new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship chip platform in November this year, while a new generation of flagship phones such as Xiaomi will also be released in November.
According to Weibo blogger @i冰宇宙, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (SM8550) chip uses a 1+2+2+3 architecture and the CPU frequencies seen so far are 2.84Hz, 2.4GHz, 2.4Ghz and 1.8GHz. The blogger also revealed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has an overall 10% performance boost and a good energy efficiency ratio.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip is now available in the Xiaomi 13 series and the Samsung Galaxy S23 series of flagship phones, IT Home has learned.
The new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (SM8550) chip uses TSMC’s 4nm process, so next year’s flagship chip won’t be the same as this year’s big six-month update, and the second half of next year’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 chip will simply be an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip.
“The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will probably have a “factory-ashed” UHF version next year, with the GPU scaled up from this year’s version. The GPU of Android’s flagship core is already capable of beating Apple’s A-series, although the CPU and mid- to low-frequency power disparity is still evident.”
