In the just released new generation of Android flagship Galaxy S23 series, Samsung used an exclusive custom version of the second generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, that is, Snapdragon 8 Gen2 for Galaxy.
Compared to the standard version, the biggest difference between Snapdragon 8 Gen2 for Galaxy is that its CPU and GPU frequencies have been increased, with the Kryo CPU core being overclocked to 3.36GHz (compared to 3.2GHz for the standard version) and the Adreno GPU frequency being increased from 680MHz to 719MHz.
In fact, the debate about this processor has previously revolved around the foundry side, with some users believing it to be manufactured in-house by Samsung and others believing it to be specially customized by TSMC.
The official response to this rumor has not been positive, but today Qualcomm answered the user’s question in reply, which also confirmed that the Snapdragon processor used in the Samsung Galaxy S23 series is still by TSMC 4nm foundry.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy processor in the Galaxy S23 series has 1 Cortex-X3, 2 Cortex-A715, 2 Cortex-A710 and 3 Cortex-A510 cores.
From the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra performance test results, the high-frequency version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 GPU performs well enough. Although Samsung’s performance release is conservative, it is significantly ahead of other phones in GPU-intensive tasks.
Overall, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is 30-35% faster than its predecessor in CPU tests and about 30% faster in the AnTuTu 9 comprehensive benchmarks. It delivers up to 2x performance improvement in GFX Bench and 3DMark GPU tests, and 80-90% improvement in most cases.
