Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake delayed again, may appear in 2023

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been delayed again, and we may not see the game until late 2023. The remake of the famed critically acclaimed 2003 Ubisoft classic was first announced in 2020 with a 2021 release date. Eventually, the game was pushed back to 2022, and now, it’s 2023.

This new info came from Ubisoft directly via Twitter. The statement was prompted due to the rumors that the Sands of Time Remake project has been scrapped. The rumors started as Gamestop and Amazon stopped taking preorders for the game and the game has been crossed off the list for some platforms.

It is a fact that the Sands of Time Remake really struggled and went to development hell. But the timing of the cancellation rumor was really odd. The rumors started just a month after Ubisoft announced that the project was handed over to the Montreal studio from the Pune and Mumbai studios. Surely, Ubisoft wouldn’t bother to announce this shift if the game was close to its cancellation.

So, in the midst of the cancellation rumor, Ubisoft had to confirm that the development of the Sands of Time Remake is still underway at the Montreal studio. A Ubisoft representative said, “ We’re proud of the work achieved by the Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learnings ad the new team will continue to work to deliver a great remake”. They also said, “As a consequence, we are no longer targeting an FY23 release anymore and the game has been delisted. If the players wish to cancel their preorder they are invited to contact their retailer. They will be updated on the project as the development is moving along”.

A release date for the game hasn’t been set. There is a possibility that the game might appear in 2023, but it will be late in the year. There’s one more thing. The game’s being delisted from the retailer means that the wait for the game will be significantly longer. It could be true, as it seems like the new team is starting from scratch.
