Pony.ai Partners Toyota to promote the mass production of L4 autonomous driving

pony wise and Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd, Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co. The three parties announced the establishment of a joint venture company to support the future front-loaded mass production and large-scale deployment of self-driving cabs (Robotaxi).

The official public number of Pony Intelligence that, according to the agreement, the joint venture company will be set up within the year, with an investment of more than RMB 1 billion, and will provide Toyota pure electric vehicle platforms produced by GAC-Toyota for use in the Robotaxi. These vehicles are fitted with redundant vehicle systems provided by Toyota that can accommodate fully unmanned autonomous driving, equipped with Pony Intelligence’s self-driving system, and will provide self-driving mobility services for passengers through Pony Intelligence’s Robotaxi operating platform.

According to the official introduction of Ponywise, the company has already realized the commercial demonstration operation of L4 level Robotaxi and has become an important strategic partner of Toyota Motor in the field of self-driving mobility services. Back in August 2019, Ponywise and Toyota announced the formal establishment of a partnership, and the establishment of the joint venture is a new step in the comprehensive upgrade of strategic cooperation with Toyota.

At present, Pony Smart has launched self-driving mobility services in four major cities, namely Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and will promote the unmanned, commercialized and scaled development of self-driving in the future.
