After Canonical optimized Ubuntu distributions for StarFive VisionFive 2, LicheeRV, Nezha and other RISC-V development boards, today the company is again releasing optimized Ubuntu images for the PolarFire SoC FPGA Icicle Kit RISC-V development board. The PolarFire SoC FPGA Icicle Kit is a RISC-V development board with one SiFive E51 monitor core and four SiFive U54 application cores. The board features 2GB of LPDDR4 memory, 1 GB of SPI flash and 8GB of eMMC flash, and an SD card slot.
The Icicle kit features four 12.7 Gbps SERDES interfaces, PCIe Gen2 root ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet, two SPI and a Raspberry Pi-compatible 40-pin header. There is no display/graphics support.
Although the Icicle kit is advertised as “low cost”, the board is priced at $590 (currently about 4106 RMB), which is clearly on the expensive side for enthusiasts/low-cost indie developers.
