PlayStation 5 Slim is rumored to be released in Q3 2023

The PlayStation 5 is undoubtedly a large and heavy console, and due to its size, it can be quite cumbersome to fit in some cramped furniture. While the third-party community has managed to revamp their own compact versions of the console, we’ve yet to see more official word on the console’s slim model.

Today, however, maybe the time for that narrative to shift, as a new report suggests the PlayStation 5 slim could be a reality in the near future. Not only that, but the model will be available as early as the third quarter of fiscal 2023. This upcoming console version will bring a new design that will drastically reduce its size and make it more portable.

According to The Leak’s sources, this new “skinny” version of the PlayStation 5 uses a mold that reduces the size of the console as much as possible, and not only that, but it also uses lower voltage and therefore runs cooler. Of course, this also means that it will become less heavy, as the dimensions of its components will be reduced.

Additional information from the source also states that Sony is also working on the issue of not having a stand when the console is laid flat. This change could indicate that the only trimming bezel could be modified or removed. The company is focused on reducing the size and weight of the PS5 to reduce shipping and production costs.

Earlier we talked about a PlayStation 5 model that will introduce a removable optical drive. Combining information from today’s The Leak, we can deduce that this accessory could play a major role in the console’s redesign. Now, it remains to be seen whether this accessory will be an exclusive part of this new model, or can be attached to the currently available digital version of the PlayStation 5.
