Panasonic Imaging will launch and make available for download on May 9 a new firmware to improve the operability of the X2, X20 and X1500 cameras.

In previous firmware versions, special recording features such as background sound recording and super slow motion recording were only available in MOV format, this update will allow recording in MP4 format, as well as face detection/tracking AE&AF functions when shooting in manual mode.
The HC-X1500 will inherit the “Linear/Non-linear focus ring setting” function. The firmware also adds two frame marker aspect ratio settings and a one-touch auto iris function, while the HC-X2 and HC-X20 updates will also add a one-touch auto iris function.

The firmware adds the ability to quickly adapt to changes in ambient brightness and other shooting conditions with the addition of gain presets. Users will be able to reset the auto exposure level to 0EV once the camera is powered off, and the HC-X2 dual codec will include MP4 and interlaced video formats in its recording file format.
