OnePlus has officially announced that it will launch its first foldable phone later this year, and the latest news is that the phone will be launched in August this year.
The news comes from tipster @MaxJambor, who didn’t reveal any other information about the phone beyond that.
Given the close relationship between OPPO and OnePlus, it’s likely that the foldable phone will be based on the OPPO Find N2 and Find N2 Flip. The exact name and specifications of the device are unknown, but rumors suggest that the company may already be working on two different devices, a horizontal folding phone similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and a flip-folding phone similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 4. OnePlus has filed trademarks in China for both forms of the device: the OnePlus V Fold and the OnePlus V Flip.
Liu Zuohu, chief operating officer of OnePlus, has said that the company’s first folding screen phone will have “the signature OnePlus fast and fluid experience” and that it “won’t compromise the industrial design, mechanical technology and other aspects of a flagship phone because of the folding form factor. The company also reportedly plans to build a smart ecosystem over the next three to five years that will enable seamless connectivity between devices.
The market for folding screen phones is still in its infancy, but more and more manufacturers have joined in, such as Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and Honor. As a brand known for its innovation and value for money, let’s wait and see what kind of surprise its first folding screen phone will bring to consumers.
