Google has developed a universal spatial audio framework for Android 13 that is available to all smartphone and headphone manufacturers. The OnePlus Buds Pro 2 is one of the first true wireless headphones to support the framework, which was available in China earlier this month and will launch globally on 7 February alongside the new OnePlus 11 series flagships.
Spatial audio uses head tracking built into the headset to simulate immersive multichannel audio. In a press release, OnePlus said that the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 will be one of the first TWS headphones to “feature Google’s signature Spatial Audio feature developed for Android 13”. To bring this feature to users, OnePlus has worked with Google to optimize the Buds Pro 2’s spatial audio to simulate the immersive multi-dimensional experience found in cinemas.
The OnePlus Buds Pro 2 will use IMU sensors and spatial rendering algorithms for the feature, and according to official details shared, the headphones will feature a six-axis motion sensor for head tracking support.
In addition to spatial audio, the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 will also offer quick pairing support, allowing users to seamlessly pair the headphones with compatible devices with just one tap. The headset will also support Android’s audio-switching feature, allowing users to connect the headset to two devices at the same time and switch between the connected devices depending on their actions.
